How can humans learn from plant society?
ResidenzaLAB 2025–2027 in San Costanzo (PU), Italy, is an artistic research project focused on dialogue. Through contemporary relational art, a working group opens up a space for reflection and invites the community to explore together the ecosocial question:
How can we learn from plant societies?
ResidenzaLAB is a poetic exercise in conviviality and participation. Plants need one another in order to live. This project asks: How can we understand and transform their capacities so that they can participate in our future? Through a working group created by Annex Cultura ETS, we will connect people with different life paths and artists from Italy and neighbouring countries. All participants will become active members of the project: artists, host families, local residents, associations, the curator, and the collaborating experts.
The ResidenzaLAB experience aims to create situations in which thinking and action unfold collaboratively, through listening, study, and dialogue. Guests working in different artistic fields collaborate with local experts and artists to develop good practices of dialogue between different realities and languages.
We conceive this project as a large, heterogeneous group, in which the transmission of knowledge and an interest in the various interpretations of the question—How can human beings learn from plant societies?—will gradually take shape over the three years of this experience.
Each year, documentation will grow as a source of good practices, distributed to those who wish to initiate an open process aimed at shared change as a sustainable model.
The second edition will take place in San Costanzo from 16 to 30 September 2026.

ARTISTS
The Open Call is closed, but we accept proposals for collaboration (workshops and experiences) by email at desk@annexc.net.
We collaborate with artists who work in new public art, dialogical works, and with nature’s connections across all disciplines. In this way, we believe, we can move closer to a practice of dialogue that we wish to bring into the world as a poetic exercise, but also as a concrete invitation. Together with the artists and the community, we follow the inspiration and example offered by the world of plants.
ARTISTS
Anna Dian is a transdisciplinary artist who combines drawing, painting, performance, video, installation, text and sound. In this open and creative field, she explores themes related to the body, space, nature, ecology, and people‘s personal and collective relationships to their environment. Her work endeavours to develop and pass on subjective sensibilities of connection, ecological responsibility, and cross-species coexistence. Anna Dian lives and works in Vienna, Austria.

Viktoria Morgenstern (aka EMI) is a multidisciplinary artist. Their work explores identity formation, social relationships, and the interaction between human and more-than-human communities through an ecofeminist lens. While primarily working with extended drawing, they seamlessly integrate sound, touch, and film into immersive installations. Viktoria Morgenstern lives and works in Vienna, Austria.

Nik Fischer is a cultural activist who has shaped his practice by working and learning through self-tuition in various cultural and artistic fields. He has initiated and founded numerous cultural projects, which have been characterised in particular by the commitment to creative and socially relevant topics. To summarise, he is a Social Arts practitioner. In recent years, Sound Art and Acoustic Ecology have become increasingly important in his work. He lives and works in Biel-Bienne in Switzerland.

CURATORS
ResidenzaLAB working group Curator
Her curatorial practice is motivated by imagination and thoughts that open up to the world. She uses community projects as platforms where listening, dialogue and exposing thoughts are participatory actions. Through dynamic exhibition formats, she fosters the exchange of ideas, promotes critical thinking, and inspires collective action. For this, she collaborates with artists, grassroots communities or interdisciplinary collectives. She creates a bridge between the issues that move societies and possible futures, by asking for example: How can we humans learn from the plant society?

curator poetic traces and communications
Passionate about visual languages, archives, and cultural narratives, Margherita Animelli moves between contemporary art, independent publishing, and strategic communication. She works by exploring and developing collaborative processes and meaningful relationships.
