ABOUT drawing by Sibylle Ciarloni Gabathuler.png

How can humans learn from plant societies?

ResidenzaLAB is a poetic exercise in conviviality and participation. Plants need each other to live. The project asks: How can we understand and transform their capacities to participate in our future?

Through a working group created by the Association Annex Cultura ETS we will connect people with different life paths and artists from Italy and neighbouring foreign countries. All participants will become active members of the project: artists, host houses, citizenship, associations, curator and the experts who will collaborate.

The ResidenzaLab experience aims to create situations where people think and act collaboratively through listening, study and dialogue. Guests engaged in different artistic fields, such as participatory art, will collaborate with experts and artists from the San Costanzo area (Italy) to create good practices of dialogue between different realities and languages.

We envisage this project as a large, heterogeneous group in which the transmission of knowledge and interest in the various declinations of the question ‘How can humans learn from the plant society?’ will be developed over the three years of this experience.

The documentation will grow each year as a source of good practice for constructive dialogue and will be distributed to those who wish to start an open process with the aim of shared change as a sustainable model.

Our initiative in this first year of development is under the patronage of the Italian Capital of Culture Pesaro 2024 with the theme La Natura della Cultura.

We now plan the first edition in September 2025.

CALL FOR

ARTISTS

Our window was open from June 1 to September 30, 2025. We were looking for artists who engage with new public art and dialogical works, and whose practice communicates a strong message about nature and connection. In this way, we believe we can approach a practice of dialogue that we want to bring into the world both as a poetic exercise and a concrete invitation.

We are now very happy to welcome the invited artists online. All three will travel by public transport and spend around ten days in San Costanzo and the surrounding area. Together with Sibylle Ciarloni (curator ResidenzaLAB), Margherita Animelli (curator poetic traces and social media), and local people, they will reflect on the question: How can we learn from plant societies?

We warmly invite you to get to know them:

On September 15, 2025, at a cena condivisa in San Costanzo Cerasa. The artists and curators will be present and look forward to exchange and connection.

On September 23, 2025, at the opening of the visible poetic traces in San Costanzo. We will publish a map of the locations and invite you to another cena condivisa.
